How to Pick the Shredding Service That's Right for You
By Paul McDuffy
Philadelphia is a big city. This means that whenever you're looking to hire someone to complete a task for you, like shredding all your office documents which are slated for destruction, you're going to have a lot of options. So, how do you find the Philadelphia shredding service which is going to provide your company with the best possible service?
There are several things which you can keep an eye out for when you're trying to pick the shredding company which is best for you. There are obvious factors like cost and efficiency which you're going to want to consider, but many others as well. Confidentiality is one that many people overlook, and is something that you'll want to look at. There is also the difference between on and off site shredders which you will want to consider.
Cost and efficiency go hand in hand when you're talking about shredding companies. You want to save money, certainly. However, some companies charge by the hour, and if they can shred many times more paper in that hour than another company, albeit at a slightly higher cost, then they are actually saving you money in the long run. You need to know how much they charge, how they structure their fees, and how much volume they can handle to assess which company is actually giving you the best value.
Next, you're going to want to discuss with any prospective shredding services their confidentiality agreements. This is something which is very important when you're dealing with a company that is going to obviously be handling much of your confidential and critical paperwork. Not only should they have their own confidentiality agreement in place, but they should also be willing to sign any additional documents which you might want to put in front of them.
Finally, you're going to have your pick between different types of companies that offer this service, but what you want is an on-site shredding company. These are the companies that bring their shredders to you rather than bringing your paper to their shredders. The reason for this is mostly a security issue. It becomes very difficult to assure the security of your documents once they're off site, and at that point in time you know that they still haven't been destroyed. Rather than expose yourself to that risk, just stick to hiring paper shredding firms which do all destruction on site.
