For the UK resident planning a holiday, considering caravan rentals as a way to transport and lodge the family makes a great deal of sense. Imagine the ability to take a trip and have to only worry about finding a place to park the caravan each night and not have to worry about finding a spot with water, electric main or even WC and shower facilities. The modern caravan provides almost all of the creature comforts of home in a mobile package.

Why Rent?

Choosing caravan rentals makes more sense for most people than purchasing a caravan of their own. For the retired couple who travels all the time, owning their own caravan makes sense, however, for everyone else, the cost of maintenance, registration, storage fees and the monthly payments on the caravan itself all add up. For the person that has only a few weeks a year for holiday excursions, they will find that the rates for a caravan are very reasonable and cost only a little more than a month of payments and other associated costs had they decided to purchase a caravan. While there could be weekend excursions available with a caravan that is owned, most people who own caravans ultimately do not take nearly as many weekend trips as they thought they would.

Why choose a caravan over other lodging choices

There are a number of reasons why caravan rentals are so popular in the UK. One of the biggest is a couple weeks of renting a caravan is cheaper than a couple weeks of hotel or bed and breakfast stays. Even with the cost of admittance to the caravan park, the caravan is cheaper. While it may not be luxurious like a hotel or bed and breakfast, there is a certain amount of security knowing exactly what to expect each night. On top of this, the caravan has cooking facilities and cold storage facilities allowing the family to cook meals rather than be forced to eat restaurant food for the entire holiday. In fact, preparing meals can be done while the vehicle is on the road, saving time as well.

Common concerns about caravan rental

One of the most common concerns about caravans is the amount of fuel they use. However, caravans are not nearly as badly as one would expect compared to a loaded down saloon with a roof rack full of luggage. Virtually all caravans run on diesel, which is cheaper and more efficient with consumption similar to the vehicles they are based on. A Mercedes Sprinter motor caravan, for instance, only looses a little efficiency even with a full conversion to a caravan. Other concerns are based around the motor caravan's drivability. They are not going to win races but all of them are able to keep up with the slow and middle lane traffic on the M. In fact, they are often easier to drive and operate than a towed camper trailer, which is another common choice for holiday drivers.
