Sunglasses were first invented when man began to grow tired of squinting into the sun while working outdoors. Eye glasses were already in existence so creating a dark lens that one could see through, but would block most of the rays of the sun was pretty easy to create. Ultraviolet light is beneficial to the continuation of life on this planet, but too much UV light can be dangerous. High intensities of UVB light are hazardous to the eyes, and exposure can cause cataracts, pterygium, and pinguecula formation UV light is absorbed by molecules known as chromophores, which are present in the eye cells and tissues.
